The Multimedia Group sports journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai has been shortlisted for the 2021 AIPS Sport Media Awards.
AIPs Media Awards panel of specialists, the Executive Committee members and the members of the Jury announced the long list of journalists whose works for 2021 are under consideration to be awarded for their craft last week.
JoySports' Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, who was first runner-up in the Best Colour Piece writing category for Africa in 2019, is the only Ghanaian shortlisted for his video feature, dubbed 'Girl in Gloves' the 11-year-old in Jamestown seeking to rewrite boxing history in Ghana.
The mini-documentary focused on telling the story of a budding female boxer, Najat Lokko, who hails from James Town, a suburb of Accra, Ghana.
With history favouring men as the stars of the boxing world, Najat has a dream bigger than herself; to etch her name on the list of great boxing legends in Ghana.
She's trained by her father Carl Lokko, a boxing coach who nurtured former IBF Lightweight champion, Richard Commey.
The 11-years-old girl is filled with the arrogance of talent, and her story found a place among the best 40 selected from about 100 entries across the world.
The list represents the first judging stage and is based on the average ratings of the AIPS jury. It will go through five judging stages with judges from 24 different nations.
This year's awards ceremony, which is the fourth edition of the AIPS Awards will take place in Europe in May 2022 at a venue yet to be determined.
