Radio and TV Personality, Vanessa Gyan, has called out GHAMRO for failing to pay the royalties of her late father, Kiki Gyan, who was a member of the popular band Osibisa.

Taking to Twitter, she noted that Osibisa’s works are played across the country, however, the family is yet to receive a penny from the music collection body.

“GHAMRO has no info for my dad in their database but they do of the other bandmates. Sooooooo, nobody thought to reach out to any of his family members? A whole Kiki Gyan. Well, ,” Vanessa Gyan wrote.

Her comment follows GHAMRO’s revelation that they had updated their systems to ensure musicians are being paid well.

In January, the manager of gospel artiste Celestine Donkor said that she had received GH₵11,000 as royalties. 

The musician in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM had said it was the biggest amount she had received from GHAMRO. She noted that previously she received about GHS300 or less.

Also, former Chairman of GHAMRO, Rex Omar, in an interview on GTV had revealed that Shatta Wale was the highest earner in 2021.

He said that the Dancehall act earned about GH₵30,000 in royalties.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Gyan said although her father has not been paid, two members of the Osibisa band are receiving royalties.

The radio personality noted that she does not appreciate the disrespect and disregard for her father and his craft.

“So two members of the group have been receiving royalties and the rest are what? Chop liver? Okay. The music industry is just rude and disrespectful. Your continues disregard of my father does not sit well with me,” she wrote.

Kiki Gyan was a record producer and a keyboardist. He played for the band Osibisa which gained popularity in the 1970s.

He also recorded and produced a series of disco records. He died in 2004 at the age of 47.
