Former president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has called on the government to assist private individuals to develop youth football by helping them set up academies.
In a discussion on GTV Sports Plus on Thursday, February 10, Nyantakyi revealed that football academies have overshadowed the importance of colts football in Ghana.
The former CAF vice president imported the government to come up with a plan to extend a helping hand to individuals who set up academies in the country.
"Academies football has taken over colts and government must help private individuals to set up academies," Nyantakyi.
"In modern times, what we used to do as colts football has now given way to what is called academy football and so whatever the government can do to support private people to set up academies is what should be pursued vigorously."
Adding to that, Nyantakyi also commended the government for putting in place sports infrastructure across the country and also called for residential facilities to be included to help young footballers.
"We could develop regionals teams who will compete at the national level to select players for the national team," he concluded.
