The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says government is bent on building robust systems that will promote transparency, discipline and accountability in the country.
According to him, the fight against corruption can be won with properly structured systems and not mere rhetoric, a reason the Akufo-Addo-led administration has introduced the issuance of the Ghana Card to capture everyone’s unique identity.
He said government’s digitalisation agenda has created a platform to deal effectively with corruption and build an effective public sector.
Dr Bawumia said this at the consecration of the Suffragan Bishop-elect, Very Rev. Dr George Kotei Neequaye, in Accra.
“This government is building a system that will enhance transparency, promotes accountability, discipline, trustworthiness and enables inclusiveness and is not based on who you know and interpersonal relationships and eliminating the incentives for bribery and corruption.”
“You fight corruption with systems; you do not fight corruption with rhetorics. In this regard, we have been trying to put systems in place. We’re trying to identify everybody uniquely and that is why we are issuing the Ghana Card,” he explained.
He further highlighted that the end goal is to make corruption a high-risk venture by significantly cutting back on bribery and corruption in the public sector.
He used the opportunity to call on the leadership of the church to contribute to the growth of the country by fighting off corruption in whatever shape or form, and in whichever sector they find themselves in.
