The Chief of Beppoh in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region has denied a police report that the truck transporting explosives involved in last Thursday's blast was led by a police escort.
Nana Atta Kojo Bremebi, in whose jurisdiction Apeatse - where the incident occurred - falls, said he is ready to go any length to challenge anyone who claims there was an escort with the truck.
He has, therefore, called for a thorough investigation into the incident to ascertain every detail of what led to the explosion.
Nana Atta Kojo Brembo was speaking during a visit by the Lands Minister, Samuel Abdulai Jinapour and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, to assess the extent of damage in the community.
He questioned whether the police escort was sitting in the truck carrying the explosives or was leading the truck.
"I’ve heard that there was a police escort moving with the truck; it is not true. The people of Apeatse were standing by when the explosion occurred, and they all witnessed it. So if anybody says there was a police escort with the truck, it’s false.
"If indeed there was a police escort, was the escort sitting in the truck carrying the explosives or was leading the truck. If anyone wants to challenge what I am saying, he should come for us to question him", he said.
In response, Mr Jinapour assured the chief and people of Apeatse that government will not leave any stone unturned during the investigation of the circumstances that led to the explosion on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
The sector minister said the investigation will be comprehensive, fair, accurate, and integrity-based.
