President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has admitted that his outfit received the necessary logistics and financial support to ensure the Black Stars' victory in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to him, the senior national soccer team underperformed despite the assistance from the government.
Speaking with Moshosho on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Mr Okraku said: "The government, as I said from the beginning, gave us all the support. From the President of the land to the Sector Minister, they gave us all the support. We had a group of dedicated players, unfortunately, their effort was not enough."
The team registered the worst performance ever witnessed by Ghana in an AFCON; a situation which has angered Ghanaians.
The Black Stars and the Ghana Football Association have come under eminent fire from the public for being kicked out at the group stages after its game with Comoros.
Others have accused some leading members of the Association and the team’s management of favoritism and using the Black Stars as an avenue to pursue their parochial interests.
GFA has also been accused of hiding behind a 3-member committee made up of Messrs Randy Abbey, Mark Addo and Salifu Zida, to appoint Milovan Rajevac, as coach of the national team.
Subsequently, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, in a release on Wednesday called for an emergency meeting with the GFA to be held on Friday.
The meeting will be to "urgently discuss and take decisions aimed at salvaging the performance of the Black Stars, especially in the next set of games.”
