An uneasy calm has settled over Nima and Maamobi following a violent clash between the communities' youth on Tuesday.
Residents in the area say they live in fear of reprisal.
On Wednesday morning, JoyNews' Manuel Koranteng, who visited 'Nima Gutter', a popular place in the area, reported that food and other vendors who usually ply their trade at the said location did not show up.
The reporter said the area, a busy bus stop for commuters to and from Madina, is deserted because of the clash.
"Although the drivers are here and today being a market day, those who frequent the terminal are scared to come out for fear of being caught in what we hear could be reprisals," one resident told the reporter.
A timely intervention by the Police on Tuesday afternoon averted what could have been bloodshed following a violent clash between the youth of Nima and Maamobi.
In videos widely circulated on social media, the youth in the adjoining communities attacked each other with clubs and cutlasses around 3:00pm.
The immediate cause of the clash is not known, however, JoyNews gathers that there's been a long-standing feud between the youth of Nima and Maamobi.
Tensions had been brewing between the said factions until it escalated into Tuesday's clash.
Giving an update on the situation on Tuesday night, the Ghana Police Service said seven suspects had been arrested for playing various roles in the clash.
"Five are presently here with us, and the other two are on admission at the Police hospital,” the Police told the media at the Police Headquarters.
In spite of this, the Police have put in more measures to ensure that the calm in the community is maintained and the situation is still under control.
There is heavy security presence in the community; a joint task force of men and women from the SWAT Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Counter-terrorism unit of the Ghana Police Service have been deployed to maintain calm in the community.
