Crop Life Ghana (CLG) has called on agrochemical dealers and security personnel to be vigilant with regard to the type of agrochemical products imported into the country.
Speaking at a workshop organised for agro-chemical dealers and security service personnel in Accra, on Friday, the president of Crop Life Ghana, Peter Ampofo, explained the negative impacts of using counterfeit and adulterated agrochemical products on crops.
He noted that such products may cause the country to lose huge sums of money.
“Ghana has lost revenue some time ago when cocoa beans exported to Japan and some other European countries were rejected because of contamination”, he stated.
The training was organized to upgrade the knowledge and skills of participants in identifying counterfeit agrochemical products and brief them on the fight against adulteration as well as the importation of agrochemical products into the country.
Meanwhile, the Acting Director, Chemicals Control and Management of the Environmental Protection Agency, Joseph Edmond, has urged agro-chemical dealers to obtain licenses.
This, he said would ensure quality and safe agrochemical products on the market.
