The Police in the Northern region says there have been many incidences of kidnapping this year, with most of the cases recorded in the Eastern Corridor of the region.
The cases were recorded in Saboba, Bimbila Mion Zabzugu.
Six cases are currently under investigation, whiles six suspected are in police custody.
The operations leading to the arrest of the suspects spanned from Sang in the Mion District to Yamokaraga in the Karaga District.
Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga, who disclosed this to JoyNews, said three of the suspects were arrested in Mion, whiles five suspects are on the run.
He said the Police have a lead on their whereabouts, adding that they will be picked up to help with investigations very soon.
“So far, I don’t have the statistics on my table, but I believe we have recorded more than ten kidnap cases,” Superintendent Ananga said.
He said the Regional Crime Office has taken over most of these cases, and they are in the process of receiving the rest, adding that some of the cases are before the court.
Superintendent Ananga said following the recent arrests, such cases have been on the low, and they have not recorded any in these few months.
”Since the incidence of kidnappings recorded and several arrests made, for now, we are not experiencing any issue of kidnapping,” he said.
The Regional Crime Officer said the victims' families in one of the cases in Saboba had to pay a ransom of ¢150,000 before the victim was released.
"Because of the nature of the case, we believe others are at large, so we don’t want to disclose all the details,” he said.
He said another ransom of ¢80,000 was paid in the Salaga Kidnapping case.
Superintendent Ananga added that the kidnappers demanded cattle in some instances if their victims could not pay in cash.
