Covid-19: Ghana’s active cases now 738

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revealed that the country's current Covid-19 active cases are 738.

According to the Service, these cases were recorded in eight regions and at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

In the Greater Accra Region and at KIA, 377 and 226 active cases were recorded respectively.

On its website, the GHS noted that as of December 8, a total of 76 new cases were recorded.

This brings the total confirmed number of cases to 131,547.

Main breakdown

The Ghana Health Service further disclosed that 22 individuals who have fallen prey to the coronavirus disease are in severe condition.

Also, a total of 15 deaths have been recorded within eight days. As of December 1, the death toll recorded was 1,228, but as of December 8, the number has risen to 1,243.

Meanwhile, the GHS has discharged 129,566 individuals who have recovered from Covid-19.

In an interview on The Probe on Sunday, December 12, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye noted that his outfit has identified seven more persons infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19; bringing the cases to 41. 

To limit the importation of the virus into the country, the Health Service has modified its protocols regarding foreign travel through the Kotoka International Airport.

The modification, which took effect on Sunday will ensure that all persons 18 years and above arriving in Ghana from December 12, provide proof of full vaccination.

However, all unvaccinated Ghanaians and residents who are currently outside the country and intend to return within 14 days from the midnight of 12th December, 2021 are exempted.

Again, airlines that fail to pre-validate passengers’ Covid-19 tests will be surcharged $3500.
