The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has announced that his office will be setting up a Ghana Corruption League Table to assess perceived levels of public sector corruption in the estimation of experts and business people.
This, he said, is part and parcel of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s pressure-for-progress drive to force public institutions to attain the highest level of integrity as they go about their business.
According to Kissi Agyebeng, “public agencies would be ranked against each other on a corruption barometer, and the results would be publicised every 9 December.”
He made this announcement at a press briefing on Thursday to mark the observance of the International Anti-Corruption Day, held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel.
He added that the Office of the Special Prosecutor would also require all public institutions, departments, agencies, and companies to prepare and submit Integrity Plans intended at assessing deficiencies in their procedures, regulations and internal control mechanisms, among others.
This, he said, is to “determine their vulnerability and exposure to corrupt practices and the prescription of curative measures to manage such susceptibility to corruption and corruption-related offences.
“I am setting up internal control mechanisms to prevent corruption at the OSP itself,” he said.
He further indicated the Office of the Special Prosector’s resolve to conduct anti-corruption risk assessments and reviews on all major public contracts, legislation, and draft legislation.
“This is intended to avoid toxic deals and the prevalence of judgment debts and arbitral awards,” he said.
According to Kissi Agyebeng, his outfit would undertake continuous education and information of the public and the publicising of detected acts of corruption while vigorously investigating and prosecuting alleged corruption and corruption-related offences.
He added that his outfit will enthusiastically recover “proceeds of such offences through property tracing of tainted property and currency in line with our vision of rendering corruption a costly enterprise.”
