A meeting is underway at the Presidency with the Commercial Transport Operators over the sit-down strike by the group on Monday.
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union has therefore asked the transport operators to suspend the strike pending the outcome of the meeting with the government.
JoyNews understands that all 16-member driver unions are in the meeting at the Jubilee House.
The meeting is expected to come out with a solution to the demands of the commercial transport operators.
They want the government to scrap some taxes on petroleum products to cause a reduction in fuel prices at the pumps.
Speaking on News Night, today, Spokesperson for the Concerned Drivers Association, David Agbado said the transport operators are hoping that the government will at least scrap some taxes on fuel.
“We are hoping for only one thing. We are calling on the government to scrap some taxes on fuel. It is the taxes that made the build-up higher and then the cost of fuel higher. If the taxes have been scrapped at least, the fuel price will be reduced and it will help all of us,” he said.
The strike has left many commuters who use public transport to and from their various destinations stranded.
In the morning, after failed attempts to secure a vehicle, some commuters say they were left with no other alternative than to stay off work for today.
