The nationwide sit-down strike by the commercial transport operators is already biting hard on commuters as many have been left stranded at various bus terminals.

The Coalition of Commercial Transport Owners withdrew its services asking government to scrap some taxes on fuel to reduce the price at the pumps.

Among other demands, the group wants government to take off taxes like the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy, Special Petroleum Tax, the Energy Recovery Debt Levy and the Sanitation levy.

This has led to a sharp increase in the prices charged by ride-hailing service companies including Bolt, Uber and Yango, with many people distressed over the effects it is going to have on productivity.

A ride from Ashaley Botwe to Airport, which used to cost approximately ¢26, is now going for an amount of ¢80. commuters.

Due to the increased demand for rides, it cost a passenger an amount of ¢91 to travel from Lapaz to Tema. The same journey used to be between ¢50 and ¢60.

A ride from Academic City to Atomic currently costs ¢31, a significant increase from the previous amount of ¢15 or ¢20.

In another instance, a ride that usually goes for GH¢28.00 is now pegged at GH¢58.00.

A twitter user complained about having to pay GH¢50.00 from Madina to Legon, a ride which would have ordinarily cost roughly GH¢5.00.

Some social media users noted that the prices of Yango were quite manageable; however, there were no cars available when they ordered for the ride.

Already, Uber and Bolt are trending on social media over the price hikes. Stranded passengers scrambling for transportation took to twitter to share their frustrations over the increment in the fares.

Here are some reactions by social media users on the situation.
