Showbiz A-Z, the nation’s most authoritative entertainment talk show, will be organizing the first-ever Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Presidential Debate.
The historic event will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the plush Labadi Beach Hotel.
The maiden edition of the MUSIGA Presidential Debate is powered by Joy Entertainment and will be broadcast live on Joy 99.7 FM.
Experienced broadcaster and host of Showbiz A-Z, George Quaye will act as a moderator for this highly anticipated debate to ascertain who befits the Presidency at MUSIGA.
The quest to replace the union’s former President Bice ‘Obour’ Osei Kufour has been imminent, especially after squabbles and litigations marred and halted the progress of the proposed June 2019 Musiga elections.
After years of legal battles and tussles, court orders and injunctions, the road is clear for an election and eventually, an inauguration of a team that would operate the helm of affairs to steer the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) towards the promised land.
The entire elections would see over a hundred candidates contesting for over 70 positions, while only about 10 percent out of the latter will vie for positions at the national level.
However, three distinguished individuals will take center stage of the entire elections – a shot at the Musiga Presidency.
Bessa Simons, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, and Deborah Freeman will contest in a fierce battle for the highest office of the union.
In light of this, Joy Entertainment’s Showbiz A-Z will lead with an intellectual discussion prior to the elections in January 2022.
The debate would offer the presidential candidates a platform to precisely outline and communicate a convincing development plan to the electorates and various stakeholders.
About the major aspirants
Bessa Simons comes into the elections with some four-decade experience in music. He is a producer, prolific songwriter, amazing keyboardist, and singer. He is also the acting President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and a member of the Ghamro Board of Directors.
Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi is no new name to industry stakeholders. He is the Greater-Accra Regional Chairman for the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), and also boasts of many fruitful years in music exploits. He is a Board Member of Models Union of Ghana (MODUGA). In recent times, he has been noted for dragging the former Musiga President and a couple of executives to court for mismanagement of the union.
Deborah Freeman holds the position of the current General Secretary of MUSIGA, having maintained membership spanning two decades. Her stints as lead vocalist and representative of British Musicians Union, amongst others, puts her in a good position to contest the highest office at MUSIGA. She is an entrepreneur, songwriter, composer, arranger, and performer.
Their manifestos are obviously of public interest, as musicians and stakeholders have not been impressed with former administrations. This will see the auditorium at Labadi Beach Hotel filled with industry players and stakeholders who have keen interest in who leads MUSIGA next.
