The worker’s union of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) have suspended their industrial action.
This follows two separate meetings held with the Management of SDD-UBIDS and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The staff of Simon Diedong Dombo University on November 16, laid down their tools over persistent delay in the payment of monthly salaries and the intended premature migration of staff to the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD’s) payroll (IPPD2).
According to the group, GTEC and SDD UBIDS Managements failed to adhere to the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on August 17, 2021.
Subsequently, the group held a meeting on November 17, 2021 with the Management of SDD-UBIDS and another on November 19, 2021 with GTEC to address the concerns raised and to iron out their issues moving forward.
In a statement issued by the University, the conditions for the suspension of the strike are; “that subsequent monthly salaries must be paid latest by 30th of each month consistent with other public Universities, and that, the conditions precedent to migrating staff to the CAGD’s IPPD2 should strictly be adhered to as agreed and signed.”
It further added that “given these two conditions, members agreed to suspend the strike and will not hesitate to resume the strike in future if any of the above conditions are side-stepped.”
The Union in August embarked on industrial action over a decision by the GTEC to migrate them onto the payroll of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) which they claimed will lead to a reduction in their salaries and allowances.
