The Ashanti Region has finally secured representation in the semi-final stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after KNUST SHS showed their class to qualify to the next round on Sunday.
They pulled up a stunning performance to beat their close contenders whose nickname 'Bleoo' gained better interpretation for their 'slow' output in the last round.
KNUST SHS' win confirms their second appearance to the semis since the quiz's inception. The turf owners placed second in the first round but gained a sharp lead in the second round when they scored 34 points against Accra Academy's 32 points.
The third round which featured the 'Problem of the Day' saw Ola SHS and Accra Academy accumulating perfect scores of 10 points to claim the Prudential Life NSMQ Star award. The award currently goes for Gh¢2,800.
KNUST SHS could score only five points, but secured the second place at the end of the third round.

Ola SHS also came in strong but could not live up to expectations. They kept hopes of progress to the next stage alive until the dying moments of the game when those dreams were thwarted.
Being the first Ashanti Regional school to qualify for the semis, KNUST SHS is expected to sail through to the grand finale for the coveted prize.
