The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has called for the swift passage of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021 into law.
According to the Council, the bill which is currently being considered by Parliament, is in the right direction and will help protect Ghanaian moral values and norms.
In a presentation delivered on Thursday at a public hearing by the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the Council said it will not hesitate to give strong backing to the bill that confronts Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) practices head-on in Ghana.
"We are of the firm belief that the passing of this bill into law, which we expect will come on, will give eloquent expression to the sovereign will of the majority of the people Parliament represents. We also see it as a very bold attempt to wean this dear nation of ours from the dangerous notion that anything foreign is deemed good for us."
"This nation is being inundated with all forms of foreign values, but we see this bill as a very bold attempt to disassociate Ghana from such a menace, because we see the bill as trying to customise our distinct values as a people by creating a situation that will preserve the sanctity of our time-honoured values as a nation," they stated.
In an earlier communique jointly issued by the GPCC and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), they appealed to Parliament to safeguard what they described as cherished values of the country.
The GPCC believes that the bill stems from God’s original plan for marriage, procreation and the preservation of the family value system and will institutionalise particular heritage and value systems.
"We are very much aware of the missionary mindset which appears to be quite aggressive that the LGBTQI fraternity has put on. This poses a very serious threat to the cherished norms and values of the society."
"Parliament should also step in and as the representatives of the people, move on and make sure that this bill is passed into law because you are here not on your own volition, you are here to serve people."
