The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has said that the digital platform communication system with other hospital systems has not been fully perfected yet.
Speaking in an interview on PM Express, Dr Winfred Baah stated that the electronic synchronising of health records is still in the startup stage.
He added that though the system would be able to run such a task, works are been done around it to see it to perfection.
“We are told that the system has been built so that we will be able to communicate but I must say that that aspect has not been perfected yet. It is in the beginning stages,” he said.
He, however, stated that the inbuilt digital platform within departments in the hospitals are running perfectly well.
He said most departments at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital started using the electronic record system last year leaving just a few departments behind since they are at the rollout stage.
“So far I must say that we are using the electronic record system called the limb system and although there are a few challenges, it’s working quite well,” he pointed out.
Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Baumia addressing the gathering on Tuesday, November 2, said the days when records of patients were kept on papers are gone as some “36 health facilities in the Central region have been connected to the digital platform in a pilot scheme.”
Dr Bawumia said the government is revolutionalizing the state of healthcare delivery in Ghana for effective administration.
As part of the plan, “all teaching hospitals and all regional hospitals have been connected and can talk to each other,” on a unified digital server.
He made this known at a public lecture on Ghana’s digital economy and how the government has used Information Communication Technology (ICT) to achieve many milestones, addressing social and economic issues.
