President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his condolences to families of the six passengers who lost their lives in the gory accident that occurred at the police checkpoint in Akomadan Tuesday dawn.

The President also prayed for speedy recovery for those who sustained various degrees of injury in the crash.

The Police have confirmed that six passengers were burnt to death when the bus on which they were travelling from Lawra in the Upper West region caught fire upon crashing into a stationary vehicle at Akomadan.

In a Tweet about the incident, President Akufo-Addo described it as tragic.

“I have learnt with considerable sadness of the tragic accident at Akomadan, that has claimed the lives of some 30 (six confirmed by police) people in the early hours of this morning. I extend my condolences to families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery."

He, therefore, "urged all road users, especially our drivers, to drive safely always, and help reduce the spate of road accidents in the country."

22 of the passengers are currently receiving treatment for various degrees of injury sustained as a result of the accident.
