The Ejura Sekyeredumasi Municipality is on track to attaining its zero maternal mortality target this year.
The health directorate has not yet recorded any maternal deaths since the beginning of the year.
Director, Courage Anku says they want to stay successful for the rest of the year.
“Our target is zero maternal death, so we have to encourage the pregnant women to understand some of the food that they need to take,” Mr. Anku said.
In 2019, the municipality recorded one maternal death. The figure went up by 2 in 2020. Fortunately, the Ejura Sekyeredumasi Municipal Health Directorate has stemmed the tide.
The year 2021 has been marked by good news, because no pregnant woman has died within the last 10 months.
Municipal Director, Courage Anku stated that to maintain this, "we need maximum support from everybody especially assembly members, and the pregnant women themselves."
"Anytime we going to the communities, they make themselves available to us so that we can educate them,” he added.
One of the measures implemented to keep an eye on pregnant women is the opening of the pregnancy school.
The school will improve skill care during and after childbirth, to save both mothers and their babies.
Pregnant women will also be taken through topics such as nutrition, sexual relation pregnancy, family planning, and male involvement.
Health Promotion Officer, Josephine Amu Agboso, said the concept is an innovative way of improving communication between the health sector, pregnant women, and families.
Through a four-stage process, pregnant women would be schooled to clear the myth associated with a delivery that makes them stay away from the hospitals.
