Security analyst, Adam Bonaa, has asked the Ghana Police Service to launch a ministerial probe into the killing of alleged robbers in the Savannah region.
This comes as some residents in Bole have questioned the circumstances under which some suspected robbers were gunned down in a criminal cell raid by the police.
In a press statement signed by its Acting Director-General of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori, the Police revealed that “the gang is largely responsible for the series of robberies, kidnappings and murder cases in the two regions [Savannah and Bono East]."
Two of the suspected robbers were shot dead while one sustained gunshot wounds.
Ali Igudu, who is currently responding to treatment, is suspected to be the “mastermind behind the murder of one Alhaji Ousman Amadu and Fuseini Galagala, among others.”
But the residents have argued that the victims are innocent and had no relationship with claims being made by the police.
In view of the controversies surrounding the issue, Adam Bonaa wants the police administration to dig deeper into all the claims being made.
"This issue would have to be investigated. This would only happen due to lack of intel or due to improper analysis of the situation.
"It could be a mistake, some of these things are bound to happen. I want to believe that the police would institute a probe [or] probably, let’s get a ministerial probe into this so that we’d know what culminated into this sad situation," he said in interview on Prime Morning, on Friday.
Mr Bonaa also called for regular training for police officers in order to avoid similar incidents.
"Some of us have been calling for training and re-training because if an officer, after passing out from a police training school, does not go back for any refresher training until such a time that he is promoted, then obviously we have a problem."
Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril has applauded the police for taking swift actions against armed robbers.
He has also dismissed claims that the persons shot were innocent.
