Wednesday, October 28, 2021 will be a day to remember for the people of Wenchi and most importantly for 18-year-old striker Felix Afena-Gyan.

The Ghanaian made his debut for Roma's senior team against Cagliari in the Serie A replacing Matias Vina in the 57th minute.

Afena-Gyan became the second youngest debutant in the 2021/22 Serie A season after being subbed on.

Here are 10 things you probably didn't know about Roma's new sensation.

  1. He is from a village in Wenchi called "Beposo" and completed high school at Berekum Presec in 2019.
  2. Afena-Gyan was selected among the Regional School team after the 2018 inter-SHS games. He has not played for any league team in Ghana. He played for a Juvenile team in Wenchi called Real Madrid and another team called Watomba 11.
  3. The 18-year-old participated in the Milo competition for the Brong Ahafo Region and was captain of the side.
  4. Initially, his mother wanted to send him to Asante Kotoko but that did not happen because the club's academy had not taken shape then.
  5. He was taken to the EurAfrica Academy instead. The academy which was established in 2018 has produced some talents such as Ibrahim Mustapha who moved to Serbia's Red Star Belgrade, Abdul Rahim Alhassan who joined Portuguese side Sporting Braga and Salim Abubakar who moved to Sassuolo.
  6. The striker says he fell in love with Roma the memorable night when they beat Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League to qualify on the away goals rule.
  7. He went for trails at AC Milan and scored goals in his trial games but the deal fell through as Roma swooped the Ghanaian instead.
  8. Just a day after his unveiling on March 13, the youngster made a spectacular start to his AS Roma career by scoring and providing an assist on his debut for the under-18 side in a 5-0 thumping of Genoa.
  9. He followed up that display for coach Aniello Parisi's side by scoring in his next two matches and was so impressive he earned a quick promotion to Roma's Primavera under-19 squad.
  10. He is currently the top scorer in Italy's Primavera 1 with six goals in five games.
