Since news broke on the first Covid-19 vaccines development, there's been an attempt at global herd vaccination with governments and private outfits actively participating in the vaccination drive.
Outdooring this novel solar-powered vaccine cooler to some interest groups in Accra yesterday, the CEO of Equator Energy Kofi Acolatse explained theirs motivation for this new innovation
“So we were concerned about the entire cold chain of these vaccines as government pushes for herd vaccination before 2023 and especially now that inoculation is taking off on a national scale.
Our worry is with our off-grid and island communities where vaccine storage might be a challenge if not handled properly
The boxes with ice packs being used are helpful but might have major limitations with these off-grid and island communities.
So we had to come up with a more reliable and sustainable innovation to protect the efficacy of these vaccines at the final phase of the cold chain
Our solar-powered vaccine cooler is designed to keep vaccines at prescribed or desired temperatures all through the day on off-grid sites until unused vaccines are returned to district or regional storage by close of day.
We all know these vaccines and diluents are temperature sensitive and a lot must be done to keep them efficacious until used.
