The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revealed that its outfit has administered a total of 2,517,612 doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of October 12.
Out of this figure, less than a million of the population have been fully vaccinated. According to the GHS, 823,467 individuals have total immunity against the virus.
Statistics on fully vaccinated persons show that 650,135 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, 7,847 Sputnik-V vaccine doses and 165,485 single dose of Janssen vaccine have been administered.
AstraZeneca vaccine per information from the GHS website has mostly been employed in the ongoing vaccination exercise. About 2,327,859, representing 92 per cent of the total vaccine doses administered are AstraZeneca.
Meanwhile, the ongoing vaccination exercise is part of government's efforts to attain herd immunity. By the end of the year, government hopes to vaccinate at least 20 million of the entire population.
On October 8, Ghana received over 1.3 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine donated by the United States government delivered via COVAX Facility.
Ambassador Sullivan was joined by Ghana’s Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah; Chief Director of the Health Ministry, Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari; Director of Public Health, Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Asiedu Bekoe; Program Director, Expanded Program of Immunisation, GHS; Dr Amponsah Achianu; Director, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Henry Tachie-Menson; and the UNICEF Country Representative to Ghana, Anne-Claire Dufay, to receive the vaccines at the Kotoka International Airport.
