The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revealed that fully vaccinated travelers from Ghana to the United Kingdom will no longer be required to take a PCR test before their departure.
According to the Service's Director of Public Health, Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, the UK relaxed the protocol on October 4, 2021.
He said it follows the full acceptance of Ghana’s vaccination certificates and ramp-up in the number of inoculations undertaken in the country.
"They [UK] puts a lot of emphasis on you being fully vaccinated. So if you are a Ghanaian and you are fully vaccinated with respect to the vaccines that we have in the country, then you do not need to do the double test that you were required to do," he said.
Dr Bekoe, however, added that the protocols at the Ghana side remain unchanged.
“Passengers coming into the country will have to take a test 72 hours before their departure and also take an antigen test upon arrival at the airport,” he indicated.
The Public Health Director also noted that the Service is currently reviewing the aforementioned protocol.
