The Director for Consumer and Corporate Affairs at the National Communication Authority (NCA) has assured citizens of the protection and rightful usage of any personal data provided during the reregistration of SIM Cards.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, on Wednesday, Nana Defie Badu emphasised that information provided to the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) servers would not be abused. She noted that staff of that institution follow government's protocols and regulations.
"We can assure subscribers and listeners to this programme (The Super Morning Show) that this information would be kept secured, and access to it will only be on the provision of a court order".
Mrs. Badu explained that access to the data gathered through the process would be highly protected.
"Already the law on the SIM registration states that network service operators can only provide access to subscriber’s data on the provision of a court order, and that would be the same regulatory framework that would apply.
"If a security agency needs to be able to trace somebody, the details on a particular SIM card, they would have to produce a court order before that information is given to them".
Mrs. Badu said the only information telcos have is the information sent to them through the *404# code."So they would have your name, your Ghana Card pin, and that unique code on their database."
