It is usually normal in many cultural traditions to express grief and lamentations when someone, especially loved ones, pass away.
The act of crying to mourn a person's death is also deemed as a way of showing respect and honour to the deceased within the African-Ghanaian setting.
This was not the case for OKyeame Kwame when he lost his granny, Abena Adwubi, at age 101.
"I don’t remember the last time I cried for being sad but [when] my grandmother died, I wasn’t sad, I was happy. [Alhough] I cried, I was happy that she died."
He explained on the Day Break show on Hitz that his grandmother had lived well, and having passed through ordeals before her death, everyone in the family was happy to hear about it.
"And then she wanted to go [die]. Four years before that, every day she said 'I want to go' and then every night she would have a dream that her mother is calling her. She became very sick, and she had to eat through tubes for like two years so, when she died, we were all happy, but I cried," he admitted.
