Sports Minister, Mustapha Yusif says claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that there’s a state of insecurity in the country is far-fetched.
The Yagaba/Kubori MP argued that the 2021 Global Peace Index ranked Ghana the second most peaceful in the country, an indication that the country is relatively peaceful in the sub-region.
"The Africa peace index placed Ghana as the second most peaceful country in the whole of Africa. So what’s the insecurity they are talking about? It's pure propaganda," he said on Monday, October 4.
The Minister's comment comes on the back of concerns raised by the North East Regional NDC that there’s a surge of armed robbery cases in the region.
The NDC Regional Secretary Nantogmah Tia, in his goodwill message during the Regional Delegates Conference of the NPP, charged government to address the surge in crime in the region.
"We expect one of the topmost priorities of the region which is security so terrible and we expect them to deal with it and deal with it properly. I know that as a result of the rampant armed robbery that’s going on, on daily basis across the corridors of the North East region, I know its because teachers are suffering, its because nurses are suffering, it’s because farmers are suffering, its because everybody is suffering and when you deal with it decisively think the armed robbery will curtail,” he added.
But in a sharp rebuttal, the Minister who was representing the Parliamentary caucus described the comment as mere propaganda.
According to him the claim by the NDC lend credence to the claim by the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo that, they would make Ghana ungovernable for the NPP.
"They are making me and the whole of Ghana believe that the tape of Ofosu Ampofo their national chairman, what he said about insecurity, what they are going to do to ensure there’s insecurity in Ghana as the opposition party is true. This is pure propaganda," he added.
