This year's Asogli Tennis Tournament has been held with a colourful ceremony.
The tournament was held with the objective of raising funds to support the Cardiothoracic Centre Project being undertaken by the Ho Teaching Hospital.
The "save a heart, save a life" project, was launched a few months ago by the Ho Teaching Hospital to raise funds for patients with heart conditions, equip the centre with millions of dollars and make it possible for lives with hearts conditions to be saved.
Chairman for the Ho Tennis Club, Dr Eyram Bansah in his opening remarks noted that it is the first time the tournament was used to support such an initiative and promised that the club will continue to support the centre.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Amos Dzah said heart problems continue to be a number one cause of death hence the urgent need to fully equip the cardio centre to be operational.
He added that it will aid the people in the region because they would not have to be referred to Accra for health care.
Mr Amos Dzah noted that the deplorable nature of the roads leading to the hospital is also a major problem to contend with when it comes to referring patients to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
"Having such a centre in the Volta Region would help save lives from Volta and Oti Regions and even beyond, "Mr Dzah said
A fundraiser halfway through the games offered the opportunity for players, fans, and other stakeholders to donate and pledge support towards plans to elevate the Centre as the second cardio treatment facility in the country.
At the end of a very competitive tournament, which was won by the Regional Maritime University Tennis Club, a cheque of GHS10.000 was presented in support of the Cardiothoracic Centre project.
Present at the event was Togbe Agyeman, a Chief of the Asogli State, who is an ardent member of the Club and the President of the Ghana Foundation, Roger Crawford.
The Police Depot, Regional Maritime University Tennis Club, Regional Maritime Academy, Ho and Tema Clubs participated in the game, with many supporters present to support a good cause.
