Assembly members of the Techiman Municipal Assembly have confirmed the President's nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive, Benjamin Yaw Gyarko.
The nominee had 39 of the total votes cast, a figure that represented 86.7 per cent of the valid votes in an election conducted by the Municipal Electoral Commission.
Six Assembly members out of the 45 ballots cast representing 13.3 per cent however voted against the nominee.
The nominee, Benjamin Yaw Gyarko, aged 42, holds a Bachelor of Management Studies from the University of Cape Coast, Master of Business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice from Paris Graduate School of Management.
Mr. Gyarko prior to his appointment served as the manager of the Techiman National Municipal Health Insurance office and a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority for the former Brong-Ahafo Region.
The new MCE in his acceptance speech thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him to serve the people of the Municipality.
He gave the assurance he'll work hand in hand with the immediate past MCE John Kofi Donyina in embarking on various projects initiated by the outgoing MCE for the betterment of the Techiman Municipality.
"We have a collective duty, a duty which should see no barrier and devoid of partisanship to involve all stakeholders in our effort to serve the people of the Municipality.
I therefore humbly call on all those who have a stake and capacity in the development of the Municipality to eschew any personal and partisan interest and bring their competencies on board for services to improve the lives of our people," he stated.
He also called on other aspirants who applied for the MCE position to "be in readiness for us to team up with the ideas and efforts to build a healthy Municipality".
"I am poised to serve with a strong team to leave a legacy in the Techiman Municipal Assembly, a legacy which would be pursued to make all Assembly members feel beloved and motivated to contribute to the mission and vision of the Assembly without discrimination," he added.
Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan, on his part, described the MCE as a proactive and determined person who could work to promote the President’s development agenda and urged the Assembly to support him for the success of the Municipality as a whole.
He charged the people of the Municipality led by the traditional authorities to support the nominee in his quest to realize his dreams of bringing development to the area.
"Nananom, there's an onus task ahead of us all. Today, we have a new MCE and our expectation is that Nananom gives him the freedom and liberty that would enable him to pursue his agenda as a Municipal Chief Executive so that his dreams and objectives of bringing the arena of the government into reality can be fulfilled," he added.
He further stated the development of the Municipality was a shared responsibility hence the people must desist from destructive attitudes such as partisan politics and focus on an inclusive participation for the development of the area.
