Dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, has once again taken a swipe at the CEO of 3Media Network, Sadiq Abdulai Abu, for insulting his intelligence.
Not long ago, the two were at loggerheads after Sadiq said the award-winning singer is becoming an inconsistent character in the music scene.
The feud between the two stirred up again during Shatta Wale’s interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Wednesday.
It all begun after Shatta Wale said artistes in the country do not make that much money from music promoting platforms such as iTunes and YouTube.
"He should bring out the numbers. He should bring out people who are making $1 million from iTunes in Ghana. Artistes in Ghana can’t make up to $80,000. Does he know what is music business is?" Shatta Wale quizzed.
His comments triggered a response from Sadiq, who sent a text message.
The message read:
"Wale is always making hollow arguments and running in circles. Who says that today one can't know exactly how much one makes from a song or video? How such narratives are allowed to fester is shocking. Isn’t payment per song from Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Boomplay, YouTube, and many more depending on the number of subscribers? How one of our big acts doesn’t know, this is shocking," Sadiq said.
Not pleased with Sadiq’s comments, the 'My Level' hitmaker stated that he has no right to offer any form of advice to him.
"Sadiq, you want to advise a whole pioneer. What is Sadiq talking about? Does he know music? Business? Yesterday’s Sadiq wants to advise today? You people have to advise Sadiq that I am a senior player in this game," Shatta Wale said.
During his interview, the self-acclaimed ‘dancehall king’ said that he doesn’t feel enthused about working with big names in the local music industry because of the poor royalty system.
He said the royalty system in Ghana doesn’t motivate him enough to finalise songs.
Shatta Wale said that it would be a challenge for Sarkodie to account for funds their 'Me Gye Wo Girl' hit song generated because there is no digital system to track royalties due them when it comes to airplay in the country.
He said that he has since been working with artiste such as; Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Samini, among other big guns in the industry.
Meanwhile, Shatta Wale has been nominated for the 2021 MTV Music Video Awards.
The ‘Melissa’ hitmaker is the first Ghanaian musician nominated for an MTV Music Video Award.
Shatta Wale secured this nomination after being featured in Beyonce’s ‘Already’, which forms part of her 'Black is King' visual album.
The video ‘Already’ was nominated for Best Art Direction. It is in the same category with Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’, Lady Gaga’s ‘911’, Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ Saweetie and Doja Cat’s ‘Best Friend’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Willow’ for the award.
