Some areas in the western part of Accra will experience interruption in water supply from Monday, September 13 to 17.
The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) explained that, "Engineers will be replacing some faulty valves on the main 900mm transmission pipelines, which impedes water flow and causes serious challenges in the distribution lines."
"There are some leakages also within the supply area, causing GWCL to lose several volumes of water daily and consequently having a serious impact on the volumes available for consumption.
"GWCL engineers will also take advantage of the shutdown to install some electromagnetic meters at the Weija Treatment Plant which will help in the company’s drive to reduce Non-Revenue Water," the company said.
The areas envisaged to be hard hit include; Weija, Gbawe, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Agege, Korle-Gorno, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokorshie, Mataheko, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Awudome Estates, North Kaneshie, Abeka La Paz, Kwashieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.
The company is entreating consumers in Accra, especially those in the affected areas of the metropolis to store enough water for consumption during the period of the shut-down.
Management of GWCL assured the general public, "that the necessary equipment, logistics and personnel required to execute the project have been secured and as a result, consumers are assured that, barring any unforeseen predicament, the project must be completed on schedule.
"The public is also assured, that supply will resume immediately after the repair works are completed. Meanwhile, the company has put in place measures to serve the affected areas so the impact will not be severe."
GWCL said as a result of the impending interruption, government's Covid-19 free water reservoirs will still be filled with water tankers to enable consumers to fetch for free.
Also, it said, "essential service providers like the hospitals and schools will also be served with water tankers.
"Most importantly, consumers should/must store water ahead of the shutdown to reduce the impact of the shutdown."
Management of Company "deeply regrets the inconvenience that the interruption will cause but pleads with consumers to bear with the situation since the repair works are meant to improve on services to the public.
"The general public and essential service providers are entreated to contact the following numbers in times of need: 0800 40000 (Toll free on Vodafone lines), 0302 2218240, 0207385089, 0207385090 and via GWCL WhatsApp lines (0555123393, 0555155524)."
