The Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, Dr John Kuma has paid for five different sets of prosthesis to be produced for victims of road accidents featured in the 'Crushed Young' documentary.
The victims are; Moses Addai and Peter Mensah.
This gesture follows the airing of JoyNews' latest Hotline documentary, 'Crushed Young', produced by Seth Kwame Boateng. The short film highlighted the devastating impact of road accidents on children and their families.
It featured two young boys, 13-year-old Moses Addai who has his left leg amputated after a car crushed him. Moses has already undergone eight surgeries and has two more to undergo.
10-year-old Peter Mensah on the other hand, lost both limbs after he was knocked down while heading home to collect three cedis printing and studies fees.
According to Dr John Kuma, when done, the prosthesis will last them between 15 to 20 years.
Mr Kumah said the donation was in fulfilment of a promise he made at the premiere of the documentary.
“I am also fulfilling my pledge to help secure a better future for these children. We have committed to provide something that can take them from 15 to 20 years. Because, every three years, they may grow out of it and we need to replace them, so we have committed to something that can keep them up to 15 to 20 years. The hope is that by that time, they would have grown, learnt some skills and would be in a position to even carry on without our support,” he said.
There was another good news as the Executive Chairman of JL Holdings, Dr James Orleans-Lindsay, followed up with a bigger offer to assist.
He is offering to build a three-bedroom apartment of which sod has been cut to start work for Moses Addai in Trede for free.
Speaking on Ekosiisen on Asempa FM, Dr Orleans-Lindsay said the story of the 13-year-old-boy has touched him so much that he can’t help but also join the hundreds trying to put smiles on the face of Moses Addai.
Though some monies had been raised through listeners of the Ekosiisen programme, Dr Orleans-Lindsay wants that money to be used to set Moses’s mother up and also use some as investment for Moses.
