Chief Priest of the Ga State, Nai Wulomo, has disclosed the reason behind putting on a head gear always in public places.
Speaking on Prime Morning on Monday, he said, per tradition, it is forbidden for people to see his hair until he departs to the next world.
“What I am wearing comes with a very powerful meaning, nobody is allowed to see my hair till I transit from this world to the other world,” he told host Jay Folie.
According to him, the head gear has got seven layers which represents the seven quarters of the Ga State.
“You see that it comes in layers, about seven layers. It represents the seven quarters of the Ga State so it’s not just a design and then each layer comes in 52 slides (52 weeks makes one year),” he said.
The Chief Priest of Ga State further explaining what each layer depicts said: “One layer is a year which represents one quarter of the Ga State. Why is it 52? It is because during the ancient time Nai Wulomo doesn’t repeat its garment its outfit, so one dress, one day.”
He however said there are few exceptions for people who are allowed to cut his hair. He said those people undergo some spiritual cleansing before they are allowed to touch his hair.
Nai Wulomo added that the cleansing is to ensure that he does not get in contact with any ‘unclean’ thing.
“Nobody is allowed to see my hair as long as l live but I cut my hair on occasions when necessary. The one assigned to cut my hair is subjected to spiritual cleansing before he can touch my hair, doing this, the person is assumed clean to be with me,” he stated.
