Ghana's John Laryea and current WBO Africa featherweight title holder looks set to conquer the world's boxing stage after recently seeing off his Namibian opponent, Sebastianus Natanael, via a technical knockout at the Bukom Boxing Arena to clinch the title.

Laryea, who is also Ghana's national featherweight champion, and popularly referred to as ‘Expensive boxer’ had a previous record of 16 fights, 14 wins and 2 defeats, prior to his fight with the Namibian.

Known for his ferociousness and vitality, the Ga-born fighter has attracted support from far and wide including Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan.

Laryea, who has set sails on becoming the new face of Ghanaian boxing will be following in the footsteps of some of the renowned Ghanaian boxing greats including former world featherweight champion DK Poison, former WBC featherweight and super-featherweight champion Azumah Nelson and former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey.

Possible contenders that the 21-year-old fighter could face should he decide to further his career in the International stage and contest for the WBO title include Puerto Rican 'Powerhouse' Bryan Chevalier (16 fights, 14 wins including 12 KOS, 1 defeat and 1 draw).

The 26-year-old 5’11” Puerto Rican, recently dismissed Staten Island, New York’s based boxer James ‘Crunch Time’ Wilkins by claiming a ten-round unanimous decision of 97-92, 96-93 and 95-94.

He had previously trounced Peruvian boxer Carlos Zambrano by way of knockout in the 3rd round of their super featherweight fight held in 4th March 2021 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Australian rising featherweight sensation Brock Jarvis remains undefeated after winning 19 fights, with 17 of them coming by way of knockout. The 23-year-old recently signed a long term promotional deal with Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

The 5'9 knockout supremo is managed and trained by Jeff Fenech and has earned himself a top 10 world ranking with the WBO by winning titles at Bantamweight, Super-Bantamweight, Featherweight and Super-Featherweight.

A fight with Colombian boxing sensation Miguel "Scorpión" Marriaga (30 wins including 26 KOS, 4 defeats and 0 draws) could also be another possibility.

Scorpion is currently the Continental Latin American Silver WBC champion in the Featherweight Division after stopping Mexican Jorge García in the sixth round, in a fight that took place in Mexico City on April 30.

The South American is known for his famous hook and exceptional hand speed.
