Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has said that persons found to be complicit in the Ejura disturbances and subsequent killing of two people, will not be shielded.
Speaking during the submission of report on the incident by the Justice George Koomson Committee, Tuesday, he stated that the findings of the Committee will help resolve conflicting stories and above all, contribute to better security for the country.
“Ayawaso was regrettable, we have dealt with it and we are continuing to see how much we deal with it. And I can assure you that this committee’s report will be taken seriously and there is no chance that anybody will be shielded.
The Interior Minister in an interview with JoyNews hit back at persons who said they had no confidence in the Committee to do a good job.
“The problem is that anybody who had any lack of confidence did not have the basis for that. I cannot do anything about idiosyncrasies and prejudices. I cannot do anything about it.
On the use of Military personnel for minor law enforcement duties, he said collaborations between Soldiers and Police personnel have resulted in the peace and tranquility Ghana is currently enjoying.
Chairman of the Committee, Justice George Kingsley Koomson, in a response to the backlash received by the Committee for its line of questioning of some journalists, stated the Committee did not accuse the media of fueling the disturbances.
“We had no such intention. People should discard that from their mind, we were doing our work and we were entitled to ask questions. And the questions were fair questions. We had no intentions of accusing the media.”
