National Case Management Coordinator for Severe and Critical Covid-19 and Clinical Lead, Dr Christian Owoo, has bemoaned the alarming rise in the number of severe and critical cases.
Speaking to Nortey Dua on Joy FM’s Ultimate Health on Sunday, he stated that most people are being irresponsible by not adhering to the COVID-19 protocols and living reckless lifestyle.
"The number of people who are ill and in severe and critical conditions requiring oxygen has significantly gone up. People are going to require ICU beds but will have to wait longer to get them" he stressed.
Dr Owoo also said, "I saw young youthful Ghanaian men and women in their hundreds without nose mask partying in a club, just 500metres from the biggest centre housing Covid-19 serious cases, and there were ambulances continuously coming in with cases.
"Just about 10metres away from the partying venue, about 8 Police officers were checking cars & asking their usual questions, so I rolled down to ask if they've seen what's happening just away from them? One officer came to ask me where are you going? anything for the boys? acting irresponsibly. This is unacceptable. It's not fair to put health workers and their families in danger for these irresponsible and reckless people".
"After spending almost the whole day at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, I left the ICU at 1:30am to go home and tell my family I will return in an hour or two, it's heartbreaking but we need to save lives."
Dr Christian Owoo urged security personnel to enforce the wearing of facemasks and adhere to the safety protocols.
