Two persons have been declared dead by medical officers at Juaboso Government Hospital after an illegal mining ‘galamsey’ pit collapsed on them at Campso, a farming community in the Juaboso district of the Western North Region.
This incident brings to two, the number of such incidents that have occurred in the community.
The deceased, Abubakari Gariba, 37, and Haruna Gariba 25 were working on the illegal mining site when a section of the pit caved in.
Sources indicate that after the pit had caved in, volunteers and the police patrol team from the Juaboso Police Command managed to rescue the two young men.
They were rushed to the hospital but were confirmed dead on arrival by the medical officers.
The bodies have, however, been deposited at the Juaboso Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
Meanwhile, the illegal mining concession owner, Kadri Tahiru has been apprehended by the police and is currently assisting in the investigations.
