Residents of Tsibu in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region, have taken the bull by the horn to fix the 800-meter inner access road wthin the community.
They have raised funds to construct a drainage system and rehabilitate 700 meters of the stretch and provide bitumen surfacing on the remaining 100 meters.
It became imperative for the residents to pick tools to fix the Tsibu inner access road, because it is fast deteriorating.
Rehabilitation of the 800-meter road is being funded with contributions from indigenes home and abroad.
The residents would provide manual labor to construct a drainage system, while a construction firm has been engaged to repair sections of the road, and provide fresh bitumen surfacing on the remaining 100 meters of the stretch.
A facilitator of the Project, Engineer Dr. George Aggrey, assured the project will be completed within 2 months.
“We assessed the situation, we brought a Highways engineer to assess and evaluate it for us and then we got some good contractors to come and patch the road for us”, he explained.
“We are the key stakeholders so we are taking the initiative to get our road done. Anybody who wants to help and contribute is welcome.”
In a related development, the Tsibu-Dzemeni road, which was awarded for construction has been abandoned since 2019.
According to residents, there has been perineal flooding of the road, due to some construction defects.
“Many cars use this road to Dzemeni market, but because of the bad nature of the road, they are using longer routes and charging passengers higher fares”, Rev Gershon Kwame Osei lamented.
They, therefore, decided to fill the gullies created by the floods to make the road motorable in the interim.
These residents hope that the government will, with immediate effect, resolve issues contributing to the delay in completing the project, and make the road ready for use.
