President Akufo-Addo has attributed the countries recent Global Peace Index ranking to the efforts his government is making to maintain peace.
Ghana has been ranked the second most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa in the 2021 Global Peace Index report by the Institute for Economics and Peace.
Ghana comes next after Mauritius, scoring 1.715 which represents a two point move upwards from the previous GPI report.
The country also ranks the 38th most peaceful country, out of the 163 countries reviewed globally.
The GPI covers 99.7 per cent of the world’s population, using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources.
It also measures the state of peace across three domains, including the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the degree of Militarization.
Speaking in an interview on GBC radio in Bolgatanga, the President touted his government's efforts in achieving the milestone.
"That, I think, is the recognition of the effort that we're making. It does not, in itself, mean that these problems have disappeared overnight.
He further explained that "holistically, efforts are being made to try and secure the peace and stability of our nation and we will continue down that path."
Meanwhile, Chair of the Board of the Global Partnership for Prevention of Armed Conflict, Emmanuel Bombande, however, explains although Ghana is improving, the country is declining in terms of social safety and security which he believes should be addressed.
