The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper has charged government to provide Ghanaians with more information on the vaccine procurement processes.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako said government should keep citizens updated with every relevant information with regard to the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccines to lessen the unnecessary rumours.
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the country's procurement of Sputnik V vaccines from Russia, on Joy News' Newsfile, Saturday, he said constant updates would help.
“Give out information, keep them [citizenry] updated because it lessens the frustration and the psychological trauma that some may be going through because of the situation, and so that helps,” Mr Kweku Baako said.
He added that disclosure of information regarding the Covid-19 vaccines brings clarity, transparency and hope to citizens.
“Information, when you are given that info, it is reassuring and therapeutic, it helps relative to even the challenge that individuals face. It gives them hope and they believe something is on the way.
"So just not the concept, throw the concept out and let people understand it in very simple terms and then seek to operationalise it, collaborating with bodies like the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and I am sure there are other relevant groups that do not come to my mind immediately.
The veteran journalist said, "When we do all these things, it brings clarity, transparency and hope, then you are building a certain national consensus."
Meanwhile, the Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare has revealed that Ghana is set to produce its own Covid-19 vaccines.
According to him, a committee has been formed in this regard and is working earnestly to come out with a positive result.
