Parliament has approved another 12 Deputy Ministerial nominees appointed by President Akufo-Addo.
The approval was announced Friday, June 18. The approved appointees are; Energy Deputy Minister-designate, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, John Ntim Fordjour, the Deputy Minister-designate for Education and Deputy Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker.
Also, Kofi Amankwah-Manu, the Deputy Minister-designate for Defence, Interior Deputy Minister-designate Naana Eyiah Quansah, Deputy Minister-designate for Transport, Hassan Sulemana Tampuli and John Ampontuah Kumah, who is heading to the Finance Ministry, have received approval.
The remaining nominees are Frederick Obeng Adom as Deputy Minister-designate for Transport, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu the Deputy Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Health Minister-designate Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, Evans Opoku Bobie for Youth & Sports and Mohammed Hardi Tufeiru, Deputy Minister-designate Food and Agriculture.
The approval of Deputy Minister-designate for Education, Gifty Twum-Ampofo was contested by the NDC MP for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini.
After further deliberation as suggested by Speaker Alban Bagbin yesterday, Parliament today suspended the approval of Gifty Twum-Ampofo and two others.
The two are; Deputy Minister-designate for Sanitation and Water Resources, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia and Diana Asona Dapaah, the Deputy Minister-designate for Justice and Attorney General's Department.
Reasons for their exclusion from the approved list is currently unknown.
On June 16, Parliament approved the nomination of Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen and 11 Deputy Ministers of State after weeks of vetting.
This brings the number of approved Deputy Minister-Designates to 23 and 1 Minister of State.
