Family of an 18-year-old boy shot and killed in Techiman South election-related violence is asking the Interior Ministry to bring finality to circumstances leading to the death of their son.
An apprentice, Abdallah Ayaric and one Tajudeen Alhassan lost their lives when security personnel fired shots to disperse a crowd that had gathered at the collation center on 8th December 2020.
"Our concern is simple, We want the law to take its course in the matter. We want closure so that it becomes a precedent for future occurrences," he said.
Nine others were recorded to have sustained various degrees of injury following the shooting.
Speaking during a visit by the Interior Minister to the family of the deceased in Techiman, the family spokesperson, Yusuf Amalo said the investigations will bring a closure to the allegations suggesting their son and others injured on December 8th were thugs.
Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery assured the family that such a probe is ongoing to establish what happened on that fateful day.
He further assured the family that there is "no allegation, and there's no report that this young man, died in these unfortunate circumstances. If that is the impression I want to apologise to you that it is not the case. It is purely an election mishap and that is where it is."
Meanwhile, the Minister also disclosed that as part of preventive measures to ensure that officers involved in such acts are exposed, the ministry is providing body cams to police officers to help monitor the activities of officers on duty.
