Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has dismissed claims that government has failed to provide text books to students enrolled under the free SHS programme.
"Since 2017, we have provided core textbooks to every single student who has passed through and over 1.6 million students have benefited," he said.
Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh was responding to concerns raised by teachers, parents and students, during discussions on Joy FM's Super Morning Show in the course of this week.
Dr Tandoh, who was speaking on the Show Friday, May 28, reacted specifically to a complaint to the effect that, textbooks have not been distributed to students enrolled under the free SHS programme.
"Students have received 'English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies textbooks," he emphasised.
"We have also provided all libraries in all 722 of our schools, various quantities of textbooks on the elective subjects," the Deputy Director General revealed.
He added that "we are currently distributing science lab equipment to over 180 of our schools that are deficient in lab equipment and chemicals."
Dr Tandoh noted that these are part of efforts to create a robust free SHS educational system for students across the country.
