The Jasikan Circuit Court has sentenced a suspect, Obed Aglidza Eli, to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing, the Police Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region has said.
Assistant Superintendent of Police John Nchor said the New Ayoma Police arrested the convict under the Jasikan District Command for attacking and robbing a mobile money vendor at Likpe Kukurantumi on May 13.
Presenting evidence to the court, the prosecution presented the recovered handbag containing specified amount of money and a Techno smart phone belonging to the complainant, from the convict.
With street robbery on the rise in the Region, the Oti Regional Police Command has urged residents, particularly, money vendors to be security conscious.
The Police also asked the public to support with valuable information about criminal activities in their communities for persons behind such activities to face the full rigours of the law.
The Command assured informants of absolute confidentiality.
