Three persons have died in a fuel tanker explosion at Onyina Nofo in the Ahafo Ano South West District in the Ashanti Region.
The driver of the fuel tanker and his assistant, as well as a two-year-old boy who lives in the community, were burnt to death in the explosion which occurred this evening, Monday, May 24.
Three other children are yet to be found according to residents who spoke to JoyNews after the accident involving the Kumasi-Tepa bound vehicle.
Eyewitnesses told Nana Yaw Gyimah of JoyNews that the incident occurred after the fuel tanker lost balance, skidded into the village and exploded in the process.
About 7 houses in the community are also torched, with most residents rendered homeless.
At least, seven people who sustained various degrees of injury have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service were at the scene to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is working to provide relief items for the victims.
Speaking on Newsnight on Joy FM, Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh explained that “we’re going in for some mosquito nets and blankets."
"NADMO is also coming in with some mattresses and other things to support them so that we can get them accommodation. We’re looking at the cocoa sheds, the church and the school building,” he said.
