The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, has revealed that the country has seen a 17 per cent rise in its number of suspected murder cases in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2020.
According to him, between January and March of 2021, 144 people have allegedly been killed. A sharp rise of the 123 suspected murder cases reported last year.
The Bimbilla legislator, when sharing these worrying statistics, gave the assurance that the government is committed to ensuring justice for all these persons.
He added that high profile cases recorded in previous years, including those who passed on during the 2020 general election, will be equally prioritised.
“Government is committed to investigating every criminal offence to its logical conclusion,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a Security Analyst, Adib Saani, on JoyNews' JN Today attributed the crime of the current situation to the country’s inability to improve crime and investigation processes in the country.
According to him, the manual process of crime investigations makes it cumbersome for security agencies to tackle the rather disturbing menace in the system now.
“Someone perpetrates a crime in Tamale, the same individual is caught here perpetrating another crime, but the systems are not good enough to inform our security services that it is the same individual carrying out those crimes.”
He, therefore, suggested that it is time for the Ghana Police Service to be furnished with modern gadgets that will enable them to carry out their task meritoriously.
