Inspector General of Police James Oppong-Boanuh has charged the men and women in the Police Service to develop sustainable measures to deal with violent crime.
Speaking at the three-day 2021 National Police Command Conference at the Royal Senchi Hotel in Akosombo, the IGP noted that this is because these crimes are committed by a network of criminals who are well resourced.
"Despite the peace and security, we continue to enjoy as a nation, terrorism, robbery, murder, manslaughter, arson, rape, kidnapping, assault, and domestic violence continue to threaten communities physically and psychologically.
"These crimes are perpetrated by a network of organized criminal gangs who are quite well resourced and equipped to commit crimes internally and externally. We need to develop a sustainable measure to insulate communities from violent crimes."
The Inspector-General of Police also called on Ghanaians to contribute their quota in helping to ensure a safe Ghana by volunteering information to the public.
This, according to him, will help the police protect the people.
"Members of the community should bear in mind that not only do they have a shared responsibility to support the police to collectively fight crime, but also have civic obligation to volunteer timely, credible and vital information to the Police to fight violent crimes."
The National Police Command Conference brings together top leadership of the Police Service including its Regional commanders to deliberate on its responsibilities and also share ideas on how to combat crimes and assure a general sense of security in the country.
On his part, Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery urged the police to adopt innovative means to fight crime. According to him, crimes had assumed a sophisticated nature and hence the need to continually revise policing strategies.
