President Akufo-Addo says the Imposition of Restrictions Act, which allows for restrictions to be imposed if required in the interest of public safety and public health, will remain in force until the country reaches its desired vaccination numbers.
Addressing the nation on measures taken to fight Covid-19, the President said that reaching herd immunity is the way for the country to return to normalcy.
He applauded the law enforcement agencies for continuously ensuring that institutions and persons do not flout the regulations.
“Until we vaccinate the requisite number of Ghanaians and enhance herd immunity, which will help return our lives to normalcy, the Imposition of Restrictions Act 2020 will remain in force,” he said.
In February, the President said plans were being made to vaccinate twenty million Ghanaians by deploying some 12,471 vaccinators, 37,413 volunteers, and 2,079 supervisors for the entire vaccination campaign.
The President said that it is also gratifying to see many Ghanaians obey the protocols in the interest of their health and the country's safety.
However, security agencies will not relent in their quest to enforce the law, President Akufo-Addo said.
Meanwhile, effective Wednesday, May 19, 2021, the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines will be deployed.
The President, in his address, said that “the deployment of the 2nd dose of vaccines will take place across the designated vaccination centres in the 43 districts approximately 12 weeks after the first jab, as the science prescribes.”
