Headmaster of Wa Senior High School, Adams Iddrisu Thirdman has revealed that the number of students of the school has outnumbered the capacity of the school's dining and assembly hall.
According to him, most dormitories in the school have also deteriorated and the situation is affecting teaching and learning in the school.
Mr Adams Thirdman made this disclosure when the '98-year group made a donation of a 32-inch television and a Multi TV decoder to the school to aid students in their preparation for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition in Wa.
Headmaster of the school, Adams Iddrisu Thirdman was grateful to the group for the kind gesture.
‘‘We don’t want to demand so much but we know that we have outnumbered the capacities of our dinning and Assembly halls.
"However, if we get a multipurpose assembly hall we will not hesitate to convert the current Assembly hall into Dining Hall B such that we can decongest that facility,’’ he pleaded.
He added that the school already has land available and appealed to the government, philanthropists and benevolent organizations to come to their aid.
He said the task on the shoulders of the government is enormous thus it should not be left alone to solve the challenges of the school. He urged other year groups to emulate the example of the noble '98 year group, adding that "Courtesy, they say, begins at home’’.
Due to these and many other challenges, the performance of students of Wa Senior High School at the West Africa Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in recent past has taken a nosedive.
In addition, the school for 20 years, had not qualified for the National Science and Math Quiz competition.
However, with a change in leadership coupled with teacher rationalization, Wa Senior High School seems to be heading back to where it belongs and has qualified for this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz Summit in Accra, regardless of these challenges.
In support of the school's preparation towards NSMQ, the 1998-year group led by Abdul Kudus Mohammed decided to donate a 32-inch television and a Multi TV decoder to the school.
The students present were equally happy about the donation pledging not to disappoint the old students in the National Science and Math Quiz competition.
The authorities of the school further appealed to old students of the school including the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and the Supreme Court Judge Justice Yonny Kulendi to come to their aid.
